Introducing Resort 19: Take My Hand

Staying true to our ethos, our Resort 19 collection is built upon subtle details and simple silhouettes in a refined, earthy palette using natural fibres.

Take My Hand includes some of our signature silhouettes such as the Ophelia Dress, Charlotte Short and Nonna Hat in new colourways and updated lightweight fabrics for the summer months ahead.

We are excited to introduce new pieces including the Bing Dress, Oma Hat and Maya Skirt. As well as our very first print; a custom design beautifully crafted in 100% Silk Crepe de Chine and available in our beloved Sara Pant, England Skirt and Jude Singlet.

Continuing our philosophy of timeless design, each piece is created to work back with previous seasons and seamlessly fit into any wardrobe.
We sat down with Founder and Designer Juliet Souter to find out the inspiration behind Take My Hand, and the pieces she’ll be reaching for this season.

What inspired Resort?

I designed this collection last summer and doing so in season helps with knowing what you want to be wearing. We had such a long hot summer in New Zealand so days spent at the beach were a constant point of inspiration for me.

I am always inspired by Japanese simplistic yet practical design. For my first custom print, I was inspired by Edo-Komon, which means a small repeated pattern on kimono in Japanese. I love the simplistic nature of it yet the detail and interest in the arches created by organic looking squared dots.
I also always turn to historical references for finishing techniques so with that in mind, I continued with covered buttons, tucks and gathering details on very simple shapes.

What's your design ritual?

I like to be alone when designing so I can have clear focus.  I usually work from home or go into the office on the weekends during this time to ensure the calmness that I need.  I almost always (sometimes silence is nice) have music on and switch between Reverberation Radio, classical music, R&B and then my favourite oldies such as Creedence Clearwater, Fleetwood Mac and The Doors. I like to burn a candle or incense, I currently have a beautiful Japanese one by Chikuseiko that I love.

What are the 5 key pieces from Resort that every woman needs in their wardrobe and why?
  • Ophelia Dress in Textured Ivory Cotton: I love how feminine this piece is and how comfortable it is in the heat. It’s a classic style that I adore and reach for again and again.

  • Sara Pants in Ivory: The sand washed silk in these pants is so luxurious to wear next to the skin

  • Anything in the print: I love our first custom print and like the pieces worn together, such as the Pepper Shorts with the Jude Singlet.

  • Hera Sandal: I wore these sandals during a recent holiday and they were perfect - so simple yet feminine and instantly comfortable with the leather sole.

  • Hunter Shirt: This new silk/linen fabric feels lovely and light when on the body. I like the sheerness of it so you can layer it up with our Unity Tank or wear it with just a bra or your swimwear underneath.

What's your go-to summer outfit?

My go-to will be the Pepper Shorts and Hunter Shirt or the Josie Skirt and Jude Singlet.

Is there a standout piece within Resort that you personally love and why?

I adore the Maya Skirt. I love the simplicity but the length and fullness makes it inherently elegant. I enjoy a fit and flare silhouette so will be wearing it with my Unity Tanks.
