Like every season before, Homeward Dove was designed with all women in mind. It’s elegant yet effortless and the pieces can easily be worn back with existing pieces in your wardrobe or from head to toe. We’re welcoming back some of our signature pieces in new colourways this season as well as introducing new silhouettes that we know will become wardrobe essentials.
Marle’s design philosophy is everyday luxury – meaning, Marle women should feel relaxed, elegant, comfortable and feminine every time they wear our pieces -which is why Homeward Dove combines simple yet classic silhouettes with subtle details and is made from 100% natural fibres and fabrics.
We sat down with Founder and Creative Director, Juliet Souter to find out more about the inspiration behind the collection.
What can we expect?
Marle’s beloved Mason Sweater, Camilla Sweater, Charlotte Shorts, Norton Tee, Gee Tee and Clara Camis all feature again in Homeward Dove: “These are all pieces which hold importance to Marle through their simple silhouettes and use of subtle details”, explains Juliet. “They transcend time and are always welcomed additions to any wardrobe”.
Adding to the signature palette of black, ivory and grey, Homeward Dove sees a warm, neutral ginger tone ‘All Spice’ across a few linen dresses and a cami. The Mason Sweater is updated in soft oatmeal and the Camilla Sweater in a warm yet light sage hue.
“Silk is an important fabric for this collection as the properties it brings to a garment are inherent to the brand. It evokes the feeling of luxurious ease yet is a lovely fibre that works against the skin to cool and warm. We are mostly using a 25 momme sandwashed silk, which means it is a heavy weight, high quality fabric that has a sumptuous handfeel, it also has a more subtle shine to it. We’ve reintroduced our old world covered buttons, this time in the form of a long line silk skirt with the button detail down the front, it gives a strong feminine feel to the piece.
We’re also introducing a new yarn that we are pleased to share with our customers, this is made up of cotton, silk and cashmere. It has a beautiful, soft yet silky handfeel. Our Unity Tank and Hare Sweater made from this yarn will sure become wardrobe staples due to the form fitting silhouette that can be layered or worn on their own as the weather heats up”.
An edit of transeasonal dresses are within the collection including the new Dillon Dress, an elegant and feminine style crafted in our signature flax linen; the Ruby Dress, inspired by our Otis Top; and the Marina Dress, available in a beautiful black silk crepe de chine or deep grey linen, the Marina is perfect on its own or can be paired back with an oversized knit for a more relaxed feel.
What was the inspiration?
“First and foremost, I’m inspired by Marle Women themselves then the fabric and yarn begin to round out the collection. For Homeward Dove, I was also inspired by old world design details, such as the silk covered buttons in our Rosie Skirt and the tucks in our Scott Top and Dillon Dress which were inspired by a dress Queen Victoria wore in 1860”, says Juliet.
What are your favourite pieces?
Juliet, Creative Director: My favourite pieces are the Unity Tank and the Pepper Shorts. I adore the yarn we have used in the Unity; it is a mix of cotton, silk and cashmere. The shape is very flattering with the subtle texture of the rib knit; this yarn feels incredible next to the skin. The Pepper Shorts are made of a luxurious heavy weight sandwashed silk, I love the drape they have with the draw cord waist and the bold hem detail that subtly elevates them. I’m looking forward to pairing them together in the warmer months.
Tyla, Brand Coordinator: Spring always seems to be my favourite collection of the year, so it is hard to pick just one style, but the piece I am most excited to add to my wardrobe is the Sara Pant. Luxurious ease at its finest, I’ll be wearing these wide leg, silk pants with my oversized knits and sneakers while the weather is still chilly, then with the Unity Tank and barely there sandals as we head into summer.
Hannah, Graphic Designer: "This spring I am excited about the Hunter Shirt, you can’t go past a crisp white cotton shirt! Such a great transeasonal piece, easy to throw on and go to the studio or to the beach, my kinda style!"
Bryley, Warehouse & Operations: "Chloe Skirt - 100% Linen, absolutely beautiful length & fit that can be worn throughout the seasons. Paired back with the Louis Tee for a casual look or worn with the Mason Sweater to keep you warm for those chilly spring mornings”.
Tamryn, Production Manager: "The Marina Dress in the Stormy Linen is so pretty and so flattering with the little waist tie included. A great option to dress up or dress down and being linen, super easy to care for”.
Julia, NZ PR Manager: “There is no doubt that the Unity Tank will be the one piece I reach for everyday. It’s ’that top’ that fits the form so perfectly. Made from a luxurious silk, cotton and cashmere blend, it also has the most treasured feel to wear”.
